About Dr. Tomitaro Makino... Dr. Makino was born in what is now Sagawa-cho, Takaoka-gun, Kochi Prefecture. Tokyo He was brought up in the rich nature of Kochi and became interested in plants from an early age, acquiring knowledge of plants through self-study. He was the first Japanese in Japan to give a scientific name to a new species, Yamatogusa, by publishing it in the "Journal of Botany," which he helped found.

It is modeled after the garden at Giverny in France, which Monet loved dearly.
Colorful water lilies and the shimmering water surface, arched bridges, wisteria trellises, rose arches, the intermingling of light and flower colors...
A stroll through the garden offers a glimpse into the landscapes he painted.
The beautiful scenery of the trees and flowers reflected in the water is set against the dazzling light of Kitagawa Village and the blue mountains and sea.
It depicts natural patterns that change with the seasons and changes appearance as the plants grow.
From late Jun. to late Oct., you can also see the blue water lilies that Monet loved!
