To the sacred mountain Dewa Sanzan
What is Dewa Sanzan?
It is the collective name for Mount Gassan, Mount Haguro, and Mount Yudono, which stand in the center of Yamagata Prefecture and are said to have been founded in the 6th century.
Each mountain is said to represent the present world (Mt. Haguro), the past world (Mt. Gassan), and the future world (Mt. Yudono).
It has been revered as a mountain of faith since ancient times.

Mount Yudono
This is a sacred place where photography and speaking about it are prohibited.
Dewa Sanzan Okunoin "Honmiya"... One of the three major sacred places along with Ise and Kumano. Pay respects to the deity at Yudonosan Shrine Hongu
* Transfer to the Yudono-san Hongu pilgrimage bus from the sightseeing bus parking lot. After getting off, it's about a 5-minute walk up the stairs and slopes.
*Photography is prohibited. Shoes are strictly prohibited when visiting the main shrine, so please visit barefoot. Please wear shoes that can be easily put on and taken off.

Moss and beech forest [Mount Chokai, King Agariko]
This mysterious place is said to have taken more than 80 years for the meltwater from Mt. Chokai to spring forth.
The highlight is the "Agariko Daio" beech tree, which has a trunk circumference of 7.26 meters and is the thickest in Japan.
The name "Agariko" comes from the shape of the trunk, which splits into two at the top.
It has been designated as one of the "100 Forest Giants."
