The last remaining trolley bus in Japan, the Tateyama Tunnel Trolley Bus that runs between Murodo Station and Daikanbo Station, will run for the final time on Nov. 30, 2024.

Therefore, if we miss the deadline of 2024, we will no longer be able to ride the "trolley buses" currently in operation in Japan.

Please come and ride the "Tateyama Tunnel Trolley Bus" in its final year, a beloved service that has run since 1996!

◆This course has three dates available in Nov., the final month of the year! (Departures on Nov. 1st, Nov. 9th, and Nov. 14th)

*Due to anticipated congestion due to general public visitor numbers and confusion due to snowfall from Nov. 11 onwards, Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is Itinerary to implement restrictions on accepting group tours. However, as this tour is a course that includes Accommodation at the Hotel Tateyama, it does not fall under the restrictions and we are accepting applications as usual. What is a trolley bus?

Although it is called a "bus," its official name is a "trackless train."

It is a unique vehicle that runs on electricity but does not operate on public roads, and only runs on electric tracks, so it is legally classified as a "train."

The Shin-Hanayashiki Trolley Bus, which opened in 1928, is said to be the first of its kind in Japan. It quickly became popular in urban areas such as Kyoto, Nagoya, Kawasaki, Kyoto, Osaka, and Yokohama after the war. However, with Japan's economic growth and development of its transportation network, it has not been seen in urban areas since 1972.

​On Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, trolleybuses powered by clean energy electricity were chosen from the perspective of protecting the natural environment in mountainous areas. Since its opening in 1964, the "Kanden Tunnel Trolley Bus" has been in operation between Ogizawa Station, the entrance on the Nagano side, and Kurobe Dam Station, and since 1996 the "Tateyama Tunnel Trolley Bus" has been in operation between Murodo Station and Daikanbo Station.

Since the "Kansai Electric Tunnel Trolley Bus" made its final run in 2018, the "Tateyama Tunnel Trolley Bus" has been operating as the only trolley bus in Japan.

<Day 1> ~A special time for Murodo Accommodation only after the regular schedule ends~

◆ Evening... Stroll around Murodo during the evening when only Accommodation are staying at the hotel.

◆At night... A slide show of the great nature of "Tateyama Kurobe" will be shown. Enjoy an explanation of the nature and history of Tateyama! On clear days, a stargazing event will also be held on the hotel rooftop.

★The time around the new moon when there is little moonlight is recommended for stargazing!

For departures on September 1st, Oct. 2nd, and Nov. 1st, you will stay in the area for two days before and after the new moon.

<Day 2> ~ Enjoy the view of the Alps first thing in the morning, a special experience only possible with Accommodation at Murodo!

◆Early morning... Go on the "Sunrise Tour" exclusive to guests Accommodation!

From the observation deck at Daikanbo Station (2,316m), a 10-minute trolley bus ride away, you can enjoy a distant view of the sunrise rising over the ridgeline of the Ushiro-Tateyama mountain range!

◎ Club Tourism will be chartering and operating the "E-SORA Tateyama Panorama Bus," a bus with a transparent roof!

◎ Luggage delivery service is included on the second day, so you can return home empty-handed.

On this course, we will provide a luggage delivery service from Murodo Terminal (directly connected to the Tateyama Hotel) to your home on the morning of the second day.

You can send any unnecessary baggage away, so you can enjoy the second day, which involves exploring Kurobe Dam and changing vehicles, with ease and ease.

◆Explore Murodo with Tateyama's prestigious guide, "Yondaime Saeki Heizo"

It comes with a guiding receiver, so you can easily hear the directions while walking, supporting you to have a fulfilling stroll!

Mr. Saeki Tomohiko is a guide who was born and raised in Ashikuraji at the foot of Mt. Tateyama and knows the Tateyama mountain range inside and out.

The great-grandson of Saeki Heizo, who is famous as a great guide of Tateyama, and who is a professional Tateyama guide, will accompany the tour! (Accompanying person will be Murodo only)

In addition to explanations about the magnificent nature, we will also guide you through the historical culture of Tateyama.

You can enjoy the spectacular view of autumn leaves a little earlier than usual.

The autumn leaves on Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route are the earliest in Japan, along with those on Mount Daisetsu in Hokkaido, and usually start changing from mid-September around Tateyama Murododaira! With an elevation difference of 1,975m from the summit to the base, you can enjoy the autumn leaves at different times in various locations.

● A backpack is convenient as it leaves your hands free. Please try to keep your carry-on luggage as small as possible.

●A raincoat with a hood is a must. It keeps you safe from the rain even without an umbrella, so you can move around freely.
