Iki, the Island of the Gods
◆ Sakyo Nose
This is one of Iki's most scenic spots, and the view of the cliffs stretching for about 1 km is breathtaking.
There is a surviving biographical account that during the early Edo period, there was a prolonged drought, and when the onmyoji Goto Sakyo and others performed rain-making rituals at this location, heavy rain began to fall, saving the villagers.

◆Ichikoku Museum
Iki Island was known as "Ikikoku" during the Yayoi period, and was an important country that appears in the Chinese historical book "Wei Zhi" (Records of the Three Kingdoms).
The permanent exhibition room displays approximately 2,000 valuable original artifacts excavated from the Harunotsuji Ruins and other ruins and ancient tombs scattered around the island, and visitors can even lift some of the items to experience their weight.

Haranotsuji Ruins Park
These ruins have been identified as the royal capital of "Ikikoku", a country mentioned in the "Wei Zhi Wa Jinden".
It is a large, multi-moated settlement that was formed between the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC and the 3rd and 4th centuries AD (the Yayoi period to the beginning of the Kofun period), and stretches over an area of approximately 1 km square in both the east-west and north-south directions.
Along with the Toro ruins (Shizuoka Prefecture) and Yoshino ruins (Saga Prefecture), it has been designated as a special historic site, known as a "national treasure of historic sites."

◆Tsukiyomi Shrine
The enshrined deity is Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto.
It is said that he will answer all prayers regarding the calendar, tides, and all other matters related to the moon, as well as prayers for safety and safe voyages.
The Nihon Shoki records that Tsukiyomi Shrine within Matsuo Taisha Shrine in Kyoto is a branch shrine of Oshimi no Sukune, the ancestor of Agathanushi of Iki, and is considered to be the head shrine of all the Tsukiyomi Shrines scattered throughout the country.

Border island "Tsushima"
◆Tsushima Museum
From ancient times to the present, Tsushima has had active exchanges with the Korean Peninsula and other Asian regions as well as mainland Japan.
The Tsushima Museum opened on April 30, 2022, and displays a wide range of materials covering Tsushima's history, archaeology, art, folklore, and nature, using animation and other methods to provide easy-to-understand information.

◆ Banshoin
This temple was founded in 1615 by Yoshinari, the 20th head of the family, to pray for the repose of his father Yoshitoshi, and has since become the family temple for generations of the family.
It is the oldest building on Tsushima Island, and inside the building are the three Buddhist altar pieces presented by the King of Korea and the great memorial tablets of the Tokugawa Shoguns. In addition, the 132 stone steps known as Hyakugangi create a mysterious atmosphere.
This is a nationally designated historic site where the history of the main family is engraved.

◆ Ofunee ruins
An artificial inlet was constructed at the mouth of the Kuda River where it flows into Kudaura Bay, with four jetties and five docks inside. This is called "Ofune" or "Ofuneya."
At high tide it is wide and deep enough for large wooden ships to enter and exit, and is designed to dry up at low tide.
During the Edo period, each feudal domain facing the sea had a boathouse to store its domain's ships, and it is said that there is no other place in the country that has been so well preserved in its original form, and it has been designated a prefectural historic site.
Delicious special selection! Enjoy island cuisine too♪
