Spend a full two and a half hours at Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden
A botanical garden built on Mount Wutai, where Dr. Tomitaro Makino used to collect plants.
The garden, which covers an area of approximately 8 hectares, cultivates approximately 3,000 types of plants, including those associated with Dr. Makino.
At the main building and exhibition hall of the Makino Tomitaro Memorial Museum, you can enjoy the architectural beauty that harmonizes with the plants.

He was born in what is now Sagawa Town, Takaoka District, Kochi Prefecture.
Raised in the rich natural environment of Kochi, he developed an interest in plants from an early age and acquired knowledge about them through self-study.
When I moved to Tokyo for the second time, I was allowed to enter the botany department of the Faculty of Science at Tokyo University and devoted myself to research on plant taxonomy.
He announced the new species of plant, Yamatogusa, in the Botanical Journal, which he helped found, and became the first Japanese person in Japan to give a scientific name to a new species.
